About The BLA

Founded in 2012, The British Laryngological Association (BLA) is a membership society which aims to achieve advancement in laryngology for the benefit of the public.

Our association has grown to become the voice of British Laryngology, through research, education, training and collaborations.

Aims & Mission

Achieve advancement in laryngology through research, education and training for the benefit of the public

Take an overall interest in the development of laryngology in Great Britain, with special reference to the needs of those in training and the public at large

Promote all medical, surgical and rehabilitative aspects of laryngology

Provide advice on laryngology to ENT-UK, the Department of Health and other organisations and bodies

Hold meetings at which those interested in laryngology may meet, discuss clinical practice and present clinical and basic scientific research

Liaise with similar organisations in the USA, Europe and worldwide.

How we work

Medical advancement through research, education and training

The BLA takes an overall interest in the development of laryngology (the management of airway, voice, swallowing disorders, including related sciences and health promotion) in Great Britain.



The BLA promotes all medical, surgical and rehabilitative aspects of laryngology and holds meetings at which those interested in laryngology are able to meet, discuss clinical practice and present clinical and basic scientific research.

Multidisciplinary approach and sharing of expertise and knowledge

The BLA membership is made up of Consultant Surgeons and Physicians, Allied Health Professionals including Speech & Language Therapists, etc etc etc.

We encourage a multidisciplinary approach and sharing of experience and knowledge through our meetings and events.

Advancing the field of laryngology for the benefit of the public

The BLA provides advice on laryngology to ENT-UK, the Department of Health and other organisations and scientific bodies.

The BLA is allied to ENT-UK which is the professional association for British Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeons and other related professionals.

Special reference is given to the needs of those in training and the public at large.

Governance

The BLA is a registered charity in the UK. The Association’s objectives and rules of the society are laid out in its constitution. The BLA Council comprises between 12-16 members.

The principal roles of the Council is to:

Develop the mission and vision of the BLA

Manage the Council and the business of the BLA effectively

Strategically plan to secure the financial future of the BLA

Develop research strategy in laryngology and related disciplines

Raise awareness of issues related to laryngology and build public understanding of the specialism
